Lore & Background
Inkwell Isle Three is the sector where King Dice, the Devil's right-hand man, reports the brothers' progress to his boss and says he is suspicious of their intentions. The Devil replies that if the brothers were to try anything, he would be ready for them. This sector represents a turning point in the story, as the brothers have grown stronger from their battles—Elder Kettle notices this and urges them to make the right choice when they meet the Devil. The inhabitants here are the runaway debtors whose soul contracts the brothers must collect to save themselves from the Devil's deal.
In Their Own Story
After collecting soul contracts across the first two sectors of Inkwell Isle, Cuphead and Mugman enter the third sector. Elder Kettle, having observed their increasing strength from battles, warns them to make the right choice when they eventually face the Devil. Meanwhile, King Dice reports to the Devil, voicing his suspicion about the brothers' true intentions. The Devil, confident, says he will be ready for them if they try anything. The brothers continue fighting debtors in this sector, growing more powerful with each victory, unaware that the Devil is already planning for their eventual confrontation.
Reader's Guide
Inkwell Isle Three is the third of four worlds in Cuphead, each housing boss fights and run and gun levels. The game's levels are accessible through a top-down overworld perspective, each with its own secret areas. Players can equip weapons and Charms purchased from Porkrind's Emporium using coins found in levels and the overworld. The super meter, represented by a row of five playing cards, charges through parrying pink objects, attacking, or Charm effects. An enhanced attack costs one card, while Super Arts require a full meter and drain it completely. Three Super Arts are available, one in each of the first three worlds—to earn each, the player must enter a mausoleum and parry a horde of ghosts to stop them from reaching an urn.
